Becoming a better photographer
This morning, I'm off to digital photography workshop in Raleigh. Hopefully, I'll return a more sophisticated photographer. My main goal for the course is to learn to use many of the features that I currently neglect on my camera (aperture, shutter speed, ISO settings, etc.). Additionally, I regularly see the shot I should've taken after returning home and viewing the shots I did take. Perhaps with better understanding, I'll begin to "see" those shots before I leave the site.

Nate, You have many great pictures. I often see one image in my brain, but snap a lesser photo. Here is an example. Early yesterday morning I went for a bike ride along the Mississippi River and saw a beautiful reflection is the still water of a small lagoon, I figured it was an easy shot, since trees do not move. You can see it here. I did not see the campground on the far shore line, the boat entering, nor the 1/2 a tree on the left side when I clicked the shutter. Any good photos I have ever taken truely are Lucky Shots. - Dave
Well, the good news is that the number of good shots we take = p x n, where p = the probability of taking a good shot given one's skill level and n = number of shots taken. The beauty of digital is that you can increase your n at no cost.
While I'd like to thinkt that this class increased my p, I don't think it did. I learned an incredible amount, and I'm really glad that I attended. But even so, I still had to take about 25 shots to get a bee shot that really looked good to me when I got home (that's the one I added to the blog last night).
