Winter in Iowa

After a long layoff, the Christmas break has finally given me the opportunity to get out to shoot. Even better, the great state of Iowa is presently covered with a beautiful icy glaze. I braved the cold temps long enough today to get about 40 shots. None are great, but given that I haven't exactly been prolific lately, I'm going to post them anyway. This shot was taken just outside of Dubuque.

If I didn't know better, I'd think that the fall tree in the photo below is now the featured tree in the winter photo. It is a great shot to get everyone in the winter mood.

Glad to see you made it to the midwest despite all the air travel hangups on Saturday and Sunday.

Is it just me or does the overall condition of the roads in Iowa suck worse than the roads in Illinois? In the way of construction and maintainence, I mean.

Nice pic by the way.

Well, I can't speak for Iowa as a whole, but the roads around Dubuque seem fine.

And my last recollection of Illinois driving was commuting into Chicago on the East-West Tollway. Around Naperville, you'd swear that you had a flat based on how rough the road became.

When I ran the Quad Cities Marathon we stayed at a hotel in Bettendorf and we were appalled at how bad the roads were in Davenport and Bettendorf. A few months later Kim took a trick to a town just outside Iowa City to look at a PACS system for her radiology department. She said the roads were so bumpy that she got sick. She also found out later that afternoon that she was pregnant. That may have had something to do with it.
