We spent our second day in Banff National Park at stunning Moraine Lake, one of the most beautiful sites I've ever seen. After driving through some incredible mountain views en route from the village of Lake Louise, we started our exploration of Moraine Lake by taking a wonderful hike through Larch Valley and onto Sentinel Pass, one of the highest mountain passes accessible by trail in the Canadian Rockies.
After retracing our steps to the lake, we rented a canoe, like those shown in the picture, for a lovely paddle around this gorgeous lake. In addition to the shot that I've shown on this blog entry, I also took some shots providing unencumbered views of Moraine Lake.

Hi Nate, I was hoping to take you and Stephanie canoeing on the Maquoketa River in Iowa, or the Grant River in Wisconsin. Some how after looking at this picture, I suspect you would be a little disappointed in the scenery. On second thought, I will let you and Stephanie take me canoeing.
Moraine Lake is an absolutely spectacular spot, and we enjoyed our time there immensely... but I have no doubt that I'd love canoeing on the Maquoketa or the Grant. Next time we're up your way and it's above 60 degrees, let's plan on it!
You guys should get commission from the Canadian tourist bureau. I want to visit now and retrace your steps.
Moraine Lake was my favorite spot. I think it was the most beautiful place that we visited.
...although I should mention that you could purchase ice cream at Lake Louise (but not Moraine Lake) so that did help Lake Louise win some big points with me.
You guys must be incredibly fast paddlers. I mean, to set up the camera with a timer on a rock and then paddle away for like 50 yards AND then pose for the picture. Just INCREDIBLE!
Actually, I didn't use the timer. I took a small rock with me out onto the boat and threw it at the camera propped on the rock. Given my exquisite aim, I was able to hit the shutter button from 50 yards. It was really quite easy... the only hard part was posing while the rock was in flight.
I was going to compliment you on your paddling skills too but bernardo beat me to the punch. As I was reading your entry I thought you said you were at BARFF National Park. I had to go back and reread it just to be sure.
No, BARFF national park was where he spent this past weekend after a 100 mile mountain bike race.
